Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for professionals facing work and/or personal adversity.

Giving you the tools to enhance your mental wellbeing, so you can focus on living and performing at your best.

Hello and a warm welcome. My name is Dr Paul Young, and I am an accredited cognitive behavioural therapist (MNCPS Acc.), Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) and academic in the field of stress management, resilience and wellbeing.

As a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist, I specialise in helping high performers such as business executives, athletes and professionals, who find that anxiety, self-criticism and stress is impacting how they want to live their life and perform at work. I currently work at The Priory Hospital Roehampton as a sessional therapist, and, when not working there, I am pleased to offer private sessions online.

If you would value evidence-based support at a pace that feels right for you, I would be delighted to help. To arrange a session get in touch using the form below, or email me directly on paulyoungpsychology@gmail.com.

Background and Expertise

I have particular expertise in helping people with anxiety, low mood, stress and burnout, as well as issues with self-criticism, low confidence and self-esteem. I am trained to work with a range of anxiety-based presentations including generalised anxiety, social anxiety, health anxiety, performance anxiety, panic and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). I also help clients manage emotional problems including anger, guilt, hurt and shame, as well as issues such as perfectionism and 'imposter syndrome'.

I help my clients to support their mental health through a skills-based approach which draws on cognitive behavioural therapy (including Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy; REBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness. This involves identifying the mindsets and behaviours which are keeping them stuck, and moving towards healthy alternatives which are aligned with their values and goals.

Having spent ten years working within demanding corporate environments prior to retraining as a therapist, I am well placed to understand the pressures many of my clients face as they seek to balance their own mental wellbeing with job and personal life demands.  Moreover, I am a published academic in workplace wellbeing, stress management and resilience building, having completed my PhD in this field.

Services and Approach

I am able to offer online individual therapy for adults (over 18). Sessions last 50 minutes. There are no limits or restrictions regarding therapy length. For further information, please click here.

I provide a space which is non-judgemental, safe and compassionate. My style is warm, collaborative and friendly, recognising that seeking support and guidance for mental health and wellbeing can feel a bit overwhelming, particularly at first. I always make sure that a client’s goals are at the centre of the process, and work at a pace that suits my clients’ unique needs.

I am trained as an integrative CBT therapist, meaning I draw on a range of approaches to help my clients achieve the outcomes they are looking for. I have received extensive training in Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), a humanistic and existential model of CBT which has a strong emphasis on acceptance and responding flexibly to life’s adversities. I also favour mindfulness-based approaches (including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy; ACT) to help my clients find stability, respond compassionately to their internal struggles, and move their life towards the values which they hold dear.
